We are happy to present some amazing videos that Stack Magazine did with JS and I while I was helping JS train in Montreal in September this year prior to the start of the NHL season. I have hand selected 14 videos that I find especially important for goalies who are looking for tips to improve their game. To watch all of the videos, visit the Stack Magazine website here.

If you are a goaltender we are your home away from home! We invite you to spend some time browsing our site, reading our content and looking at our on line pictures and even watching some of our on line mpeg video drills. Stay tuned to the site as we are constantly adding new content. In the meantime, why not take a peek at our NEW 2008 Summer Camp program OR spend a few minutes reading our Levels of Achievement program, a program we built to define the development of the goaltender position.

We invite your comments and your thoughts on what we have built and we extend an invitation to you to come and visit us. Come for a session on our artificial ice or spend a week at the most comprehensive goalie camp offered. You wont be dissapointed...

Blog 5 - Part 2 - Trainers & Training Camps

As discussed last blog this is a continuation of my latest offering on training camps and trainers. If you have not read the first part PLEASE go to the start of the Blog first (BELOW in BOLD). For those waiting for part 2 here it goes;

 As we left it last we were discussing the value you should expect for camp costs. We discussed what you will most likely get in camps under $300 to $400 and left it with what to expect when paying more.

    Ok when looking at those $500 and up camps it is also important to know what you are paying for. Are you paying for a past pro tender as the sole teacher? Or are you paying for 1 or 2 qualified instructors or is it a well staffed camp that combines knowledgeable coaches and shooters along with efficient off ice activities? Equally as important is the type of camp you are attending, is it a skill development camp, a technical based camp, a tactical based camp, or an elite camp? Each camp should staff differently and whatever camp you choose it needs to match the level of knowledge your tender has. Kind of pointless to send a goalie who has elite teachings to a camp staffed by 1 pro who played the game 10 years ago and the camp focus is on how he played then. This will set back the process of development of your tender. Instead, for the elite tender, find someone who offers new knowledge with less physical time coaching on ice and more time on task. Look for video teaching methods and drills that push your tender in all aspects of the new game. Look for drills that feature at least 2 high quality shooters PER NET and fewer goalies in fewer nets. You will pay more but you will also get much more! Make sure you know the level of teaching knowledge that the instructors have and what support people they have in place during your camp. Many camps shoot up in the summer and offer week long camps then disappear again for another year. Are those camps truly working with your best interest in mind? In some cases yes they are as the people attached to the camp are busy in the winter season with elite or pro teams and take back all they have learned from their winter jobs to the camp. But in many cases they are not! They are camps that have run the same thing year after year and offer very little new or relevant things in the game.

A Message from "Jiggy"

jig-profilesquare.jpgHello readers, hard to believe that we are entering our 5th year with 1 to 1 and the Centre. It is always a treat to come back to Halifax and see all of you each Summer. Although I am completely across the continent i often think of all of you in the 1 to 1 program.

I hope all of you who have visted our website and store or school have seen the passion myself and Joe have for you and the position of goal. Joe and I work closely together to make the skills and drills suit your play so i hope you will practise each of the methods taught in our program every day to keep your skills sharp, just as i do everyday with the Ducks. They are proven and I personally believe they will help you become a more confident, successful goaltender.

Hope to See You in Halifax!
